Project: Pen to Pencil Case
Pen to Paper Ghana is a Non-Governmental Organisation that aims to improve education and facilities for the youth of Ghana, to give them a good grounding for a successful future. Our main focus is on improving literacy rates, through free phonics classes, teacher training, a mobile library and school infrastructure projects.
With the mobile library, we are allowing children to access books and create a love for reading but unfortunately for many, they also lack the basic and essential school supplies, such as a pen! Without the ability to do school tasks, such as taking notes in class due to the lack of a pen or exercise book, children are unable to actively participate in the classroom and therefore their education is severely hindered.
Whilst many Ghanaian students go to school without basic supplies, a pencil case is a luxury item since most parents would prioritise food and shelter over it.
No child should ever be without a pen/pencil to study
What we want to do?
We want to donate as many pencil cases as we can to children in Ghana.
How you can help?
We need your help to ensure children in Ghana have the basic supplies they need for school.
1. Get a pencil case and fill it with a selection of the following types of items:
Pencils (lead and/or coloured)
We also ask that you add a minimum of a £3 donation to each pencil case to help with the transportation and delivery costs.
(Items can be either new or used but in a good condition. Once collected, send us an email for our UK/Ghanaian postal addresses or to find a local collection point.)
2. If you’d rather send us the money to buy a pencil case with items in it locally, it will cost £10 and you can purchase one from our online shop.
If you have any questions about this project, or your school or group is interested in doing a fundraiser to collect pencil cases, please do get in touch with us.
